09/11/17 16:20 Basic Information: Brooklyn is a 2 years old spayed female black and white domestic short hair cat. She was a stray when her previous owner took her in to her home. The previous owner had her for 2 ears. She was surrendered due to a personal problem. She has no known injuries or health problems. Socialization: She was shy around strangers and can be aggressive. She hisses and pounces at unfamiliars. She played somewhat rough with adults. Please see DOH memo for bite history. Behavior: She meow on the ride to our care center. She was not bothered by baths, nail trims, or having her coat brushed. She was not bothered by being picked up and held. For a new family to know: She was described as an affectionate but anxious cat. Her activity level was medium. She would follow the previous owner around the house. She was kept indoors only. She slept anywhere she desired. She would sometime lay down in a little cube. She had an uncovered litter box filled with clumping litter. During intake: Brooklyn had a relaxed body posture inside the carrier. She hissed at the admissions counselor. The previous owner was able to remove her old collars and clamp the ident-a-band around her neck. Her eyes were dilated.

KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Two adults Behavior toward strangers: Shy and can be aggressive, hissing and pouncing on people she’s unfamiliar with Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats or dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: Bit new roommate Litter box training: Yes, uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter Energy level/descriptors: She was described as an affectionate but anxious cat with a medium activity level. Other notes: She would follow the previous owner around the house and slept anywhere she desired in the home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – screaming, trying to bite ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/13/17 Growls from under cage cover and hisses when uncovered. Focuses on me with dilated eyes and continues to hiss and growl when spoken to. Shifts away as cage door opens and increases distance when petting is attempted. Will blink softly when coaxed, but stiffens up whenever hand extends. 09/14/17 Growls and hisses when approached, before cage cover is lifted. Continues to growl and looks around with dilated eyes, alert. Will sniff bear claw when slowly extended, but continues to growl and shift away from contact. Nips air near bear claw when petting is attempted and growls louder. Still needs time to warm up. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Brooklyn was eating by the front. She hisses when approached, but continues to eat. Reaction when softly spoken to: Brooklyn ignores the assessor and continues to eat. Reaction to cage door opening: Brooklyn retreats to the back and starts to growl, lip licking. Reaction to touch: Brooklyn focuses on the assessor’s hand and hisses and growls. She sniffs the hand and allows brief touch, but quickly shifts away to avoid further contact. When petting was attempted again, she hisses and growls louder. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner – Brooklyn is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
