***SAFE 7/1/17*** ADORABLE AND PLAYFUL BOSS WAS RETURNED TO THE SHELTER AND NEEDS A NEW CAT PURRSON TO PLAY WITH!! BOSS was surrendered back to the ACC due to behavioral issues. The issues that the owner claims seem to be that Boss wants to play and is not getting the attention he deserves. This poor guy needs a chance with a family who understands cats and is willing to provide the play and stimulation he needs. PLEASE RESERVE BOSS BY NOON!!

He struggled when being place in a carrier. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Tense in back of cage, came to front of cage and allowed some petting, startles with any noises, backed up and raised paw, starts low growling and hissing ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/08/17 At the front of the kennel head-butting kennel door .he allows petting along his head and body, leaning in while eyes are alert. Remains calm when pet initially, then his eyes get wide and he begins to become fixated on my movements. I switch to the bear-claw and he begins to play with it – batting at it and pulling it towards him. Very playful, but can play rough. Gets a bit reactive when I close the door kennel door – ears flatten and he begins to swat at my hand. 06/18/17 At front of the kennel, rolling over onto his side and reaching out through the door with soft paws. He stands up when I open his cage and allows petting along his head and body, raising his tail and leaning in. Tries to jump out of kennel – I have to keep pushing him back. Remains relaxed for the duration of this session. Allows all petting. Doing well today.
EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Boss is lying in the back of the kennel with a relaxed body and ears forward as the assessor approaches. Reaction when softly spoken to: Boss begins to knead the ground with one paw and look around the room as the Assessor speaks to him Reaction to cage door opening: Boss comes forward and begins to head-butt the kennel door as the assessor is unlocking the cage. Reaction to touch: Boss allows petting along his head and body while leaning in with his tail raised. He allows continued petting while tensing and pausing to watch the assessor’s hand, then leaning in again. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Energetic VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Demanding, Playful POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Overstimulation Boss is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Boss becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. – Very high energy level Boss is an active young cat who would benefit from increased mental and physical stimulation to appropriately direct his energy. We recommend using fishing pole-type toys as they allow for vigorous and stimulating exercise. Puzzle feeders will also keep Boss engaged and exercise his brain in addition to his body. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only Boss solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to Boss’ tendency towards overstimulation as observed in our care center as well as being reported to us by his previous adopter we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home with experienced cat owners.
