NEW PHOTO! BOOTS is supposedly 15 yrs old according to his owner and has had litterbox issues for about a year. Not known whether owner actually took his cat to the vet to see what is wrong. Needs a new home – cat looks much younger.

04/27/17 10:59 BASIC INFO Boots A1110193 is a 15 year old dsh. He is being surrendered to the shelter because he has been urinating outside of the litterbox for over a year. Owner has had Boots for 15 years. Boots has not been to a veterinarian. SOCIALIZATION Boots is very friendly with strangers. He is relaxed and respectful with children. He plays gentle with children and adults alike. Boots lived with a Chihuahua and he was relaxed, respectful and playful with the dog. Boots has not lived with another cat. Boots has never scaratched anyone. BEHAVIOR Boots’s only behavior problem is that he urinates outside of the litterbox. He rides quietly in a car. Boots does allow you to pick him up, and place in a carrier. Boots is not bothered if disturbed out of his sleep. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW boots is best described as friendly, affectionate and playful. Boots has a high activity level. When home, he follows you around. He enjoys playing with any cat toy. Boots has been kept mostly indoors. Boots sleeps anywhere in the home. Boots has a regular litterbox with Fresh Step, but has been going out of it for the last year. He scratches on a cardboard. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Boots allowed all handling, collaring and photos. Boots tried fleeing.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Shy/nervous but easy to examine initially; hissed when ears were checked and when restrained for blood draw EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Boots was resting upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Boots wakes and looks at the assessor, rolling on his back. He rubs his cheeks on his bedding after. Reaction to cage door opening: Boots remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Boots pushes his head up against the assessor’s hand and leans in for petting. He rolls over again, rubs his cheeks against the assessor’s hand, and starts to purr. Reaction to being picked up: Boots remains calm and allows handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Inappropriate elimination – Boot’s previous owners report that he was urinating outside the litter box for about a year. We are unaware if any modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Boots interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
