07/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
7/26 update: Blue remains social and affiliative, but reacts to having items taken out of his cage while he’s in it by retreating, tensing, and sometimes swatting. The behavior seems to be restricted to this situation alone, all other behavior observed and reported by the previous owner is in line with the “average” determination given previously. However, due to the stress of continual cage cleanings in the care center, we recommend that Blue move into a stable home environment quickly. 7/13/16 Reaction to assessor: Blue was calm, relaxed and lying down on his blanket at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Blue comes forward and rubs up against the kennel bars. Reaction to cage door opening: Blue is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Blue sniffs the assessor’s hand and rubs up for attention. He allows petting all over his body, head butts intensely and is demanding of attention. Reaction to being picked up: Blue becomes tense and lip licks when help. He gets antsy, leaps away back into the kennel and comes back to the front seeking attention. Behavior Determination: Average Blue interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents. 06/18/16 As per previous owners, Blue is shy around strangers and gentle when he plays with adults. He lived with 5 other cats and was calm with them. When playing he can be somewhat rough and he’s never been around dogs. He is litter box trained and gets nervous when being picked up. Blue is described as being fearful with a medium activity level and enjoys playing with string, balls and stuffed toys. Reaction to assessor: Blue was curled up at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Blue makes eye contact but doesn’t come forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Blue lip licks and remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Blue is hesitant of contact and lip licks but allows petting with a slow approach. He leans forward allowing rubs then lightly brushes against the assessor’s arm. Blue slowly builds his confidence and eventually gets up and approaches the front of the kennel. He raises his rear when pet and gives light head butts. Behavior Determination: Experience Blue may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
