04/18/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – BEGINNER
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Blossom was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She allowed her finder to pick her up and she appeared social. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Calm. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/13/17 Lying crouched in litter box with a tense body, face hidden. She lifts her head and makes eye contact with me as I open the kennel door, then hides her face again. She begins to rapid breathe as I approach, keeping her eyes focused on my arm. She tolerates petting on her with lip licking and turns around to watch my hand with wide eyes if I try to pet her back. I don’t push her further – needs more time to adjust. 04/17/17 Lying down with a relaxed body. Comes forward when spoken to and chirps. She leans into my hand and accepts petting along her head and body, raising her tail and kneading the ground with her paws. Doing great in adoptions! Was purring by end of interaction. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Blossom was calm, relaxed, and friendly upon approach, looking around. Reaction when softly spoken to: Blossom immediately plopped onto her side and rubbed her cheeks against her bedding, stretching her paws out towards the front of her kennel. Reaction to cage door opening: Blossom remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Blossom head-butts and arches her back in to petting. She begins to purr and rubs her cheeks against the assessor, rolling over. When petting stops, she gets up and approaches the front to head-butt some more. Reaction to being picked up: Blossom remains calm and continues to purr when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Affectionate BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beginner Blossom interacts with the observer, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.
