ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/17/17 Lying down near the front of the kennel. Tense, wary of surroundings. Growls and hisses when approached. End of tail thrashes around. He rises up and retreats to the back of the cage when the door opens. His ears bend flat and his eyes remained focused on all movements. Sniffs hand and tolerates being touched as long as you go slowly. Kept the interaction short. Offered treats and sprayed feliway. 11/18/17 Much more relaxed today. At the front of the kennel, tail erect, meowing softly as I approach. She rubs her cheeks against the cage door and rolls around. Sweet girl. She perks up when pet and gives head butts. Her tail quickly pilo-erects and thrashes around with extended handling. Clicker trained to give high fives. Used tuna as a reward. Doing well! Sprayed feliway. 11/19/17 Approaches the front, curious, sniffing around. Solicits attention and then tries to explore outside of kennel when door opens. Allows petting all over, but tail starts to sway and become pilo-erect. Watchful of surroundings, but seems to appreciate attention; will lean in, purr, and rub against me. Meows softly and pat my hand with her paw gently for more attention. 11/20/17 Lying in litterbox with a relaxed body, ears forward. Cardboard of litterbox has been all chewed up. He makes eye contact as I open the kennel door and comes forward with a raised tail. He allows petting along his head and body while leaning in, tail remaining high in the air. His tail begins to wave back and forth when pet along the lower back, but he offers no further correction for the duration of the session. May be showing signs of overstimulation. He bats at my hand playfully as I close the kennel door, then becomes focused on my movements and begins to reach out with nails extended. Doing well! Sprayed feliway. Ate all treats offered. 11/21/17 At front of kennel as I approach, vocalizing and reaching out towards me with claws extended. He remains in front of his kennel as I open the cage door and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and raising his tail. He walks forward and leans against my arms and stomach, makes eye contact with soft eyes. Friendly. I pet him until his tail becomes completely pilo-erect, then I play with him using a laser pointer. Loves to play. Likes treats and loves all toys. High energy. Has potential to become excited and over aroused during interactions. Doing well! 11/26/17 At front of kennel as I approach, leaning against kennel door. Makes eye contact and vocalizes as he reaches out towards me with soft paws. He allows petting along his head and body while leaning in, tail raised and quivering. Tail becomes completely pilo-erect with continued petting but he offers no further reaction, even when pet along his lower back. Begins to purr. He theb climbs onto my lap and leans against my chest. Did great today!
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Bliss is in front of the kennel vocalizing and reaching out through the kennel door with soft soft paws as the assessor approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Bliss makes eye contact when spoken to softly and vocalizes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Bliss leans against the cage door as it opens.
Reaction to touch:: Bliss allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and purring. Tail raises and becomes pilo-erect. Bliss climbs into the assessor’s lap and allows further petting, leaning against the assessor and purring as his tail waves back and forth.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Energetic
VOCAL:: Talkative
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Social,Affectionate,Playful,Lap Cat
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation
Potential challenges comments:: Bliss is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Bliss becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Bliss allows attention and petting and solicits attention. With prolonged interaction Bliss begins to show signs of overstimulation (tail becomes pilo-erect and waves back and forth). For these reasons we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
