***SAFE 07/18/17*** PERFECTLY HEALTHY BLANCO WAS BROUGHT TO THE SHELTER DUE TO ALLERGIES IN THE HOME. Now this gorgeous white neutered boy is going to be killed because he is not his usual self and afraid in the shelter environment. Blanco was playful with children and friendly. Sadly when cats are left in the scary shelter they cannot behave the way they did in a home. Blanco needs a new home and fast. PLEASE RESERVE THIS BOY THROUGH A NEW HOPE RESCUE BY NOON!

Blanco A1117877 is at risk due to behavior. His previous owner reports he is very shy around strangers and hides around them. He displays fearful behaviors in the shelter environment, hiding throughout his stay. He becomes stiff and alert when approached, and does not allow touch. When petting is attempted, he hisses and growls loudly.

07/08/17 15:59 Basic: Blanco is a 4 year old neutered domestic shorthair who was rescued by the owner’s son and then gifted to him. The owners have had Blanco since he was a kitten. Recently, the owner’s granddaughter has developed a severe cat allergy so they are unable to hold on to Blanco. Blanco does not have any health issues. Socialization: Blanco is a very shy boy and he hides under the bed when unfamiliar people come over. Blanco has lived with a 9 year old girl and he would always try and play with her. Blanco plays with a wand with adults and is very gentle. Blanco has never been around other cats or dogs. Blanco has never bitten or scratched another animal or person. Behavior: Blanco does not like to be given a bath or have his nails trimmed. Blanco does enjoy being brushed. Blanco is more of an independent cat and prefers not to be picked up and held. Blanco does not liked confined spaces. For a New Family to Know: Blanco is described as very independent and friendly. Blanco lies to spend his days sleeping and has a very low level of energy. Blanco loves to play with balls, strings, ropes, and wands. When people are home, Blanco likes to follow them around. Blanco has been an indoor only cat. Blanco likes to have his own freedom so he sleeps on his own bed. Blanco is fed 9 lives wet food and Friskies dry food twice a day. Blanco’s go to treats are Meow Mix treats. Blanco never has litterbox accidents, he uses a hooded litterbox with clumping litter.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: adults and a 9 year old girl Behavior toward strangers: very shy and hides Behavior toward children: always try and play Litter box training: yes Other notes: described as very independent and friendly. Blanco likes to spend his days sleeping and has a very low level of energy. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Blanco looks tense, hiding in the cat den during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Blanco becomes alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Blanco does not allow the touch and began to hiss and growl. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Blanco is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
