BLACKBERRY – A1107902
Safe - 4-24-2017 Manhattan
SAFE 4/24/17 A volunteer writes: Blackberry was a little scared when I met him. When we first hung he would not come near me, so I hummed to him and spoke to him. When I was about to leave him though he started meowing for me. So, I returned to Blackberry’s kennel and he told me about himself through a poem: A poem by Blackberry: “I am Blackberry, which I am told is a thing called a cell phone. Just like a cell phone, I too can be taken home. Unlike a cell phone, I am not a social device. I am very shy, but if you give me some time you will find I am also playful and nice. I have this cool mini pillow in my kennel that has pictures more berry-like than me. It’s a fun toy I like to play with if upon first sight scared is what I appear to be. So, future family looking for a new cat to love, I will be waiting in my finest tuxedo to be the new addition that fits like a glove.”

Enrichment Notes
04/11/17
Resting inside cubby, but becomes alert when spoken to and slowly retreats to the back and leans against the back wall. He blinks softly when spoken to and will allow gentle strokes along his head and body. He might try to shift away from contact from time to time, but after a few strokes he lifted his rear when pet along his back. He is a bit timid and unsure, but doesn’t seem to mind petting and attention after he warms up. Has potential to warm up more.
Recently recovered from URI. Asleep in cubby on approach. Woke when door opened, eyes dilated, became stiff and tense. Allowed and slightly leaned into pets, but retreated further back into cubby. Sprayed feliway.
4/12/17
Out for neuter.
4/13/17
Crouched at back of shelf, tense posture, eyes dilated. Became alert when door opened. Seemed interested in treats, but very hesitant in approaching them. Inched forward, kept body low, ate slowly. Tolerated pets, but preferred to move away when possible. Sprayed feliway.
4/17/17
Still very unsure. Came to the front to investigate new toy, but lip licked and retreated on approach. Repeatedly came to the front for treats, and retreated again whenever I came close. Moved to back when door opened, moved around to avoid pets, but did briefly lift rear for butt scratches. Sprayed feliway.
4/18/17
Briefly on shelf, retreated into cubby on approach, stiff posture, eyes dilated. Somewhat tolerated pets along body, made much bigger effort to avoid pets on head. Ate treats when left alone, can still be lured to front for more. Sprayed feliway.
