09/03/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Bingo was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on his behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. He was affectionate during intake and allowed all handling to be conducted. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Will flee, but friendly during exam and treatments ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/23/17 Resting on shelf, soft eyes and body, looking around. Lay in place when door opened, ate treats from my hand. Leaned and arched into pets, purred, really sweet. Ideal event cat. 08/24/17 Bit a volunteer earlier. ACS reported volunteer was playing with him and didn’t notice he started showing signs of over-arousal, resulting in a bite wound. He was lying down in his cubby when approached, but immediately approaches the front and starts soliciting attention. Decided to clicker train him to fist bump. He is a fast learner, quickly reaching out to touch my fist for more treats. Started adding verbal cue, but he still needs more repetition. Remained by the front, calm and relaxed by the end of training. 8/28/17 Came to the front on approach, soft eyes and body. Meowed and started rubbing against the bars. Ate treats from my hand, leaned and arched into pets, purred, drooled. 8/31/17 Came to the front on approach, soft eyes and body. Started walking back and forth, rubbing against the bars, occasional soft meowing. Leaned and arched into pets, purred, ate treats. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Bingo approaches the front and meows. Reaction when softly spoken to: Bingo can be heard purring and head-butts the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Bingo greets by the opening and remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Bingo sniffs the assessor’s hand and accepts petting, purring loudly. He leans in for cheek rubs, but looks around his surroundings. Reaction to pick up: Bingo remains calm and continues to look around when held, still purring. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Curious, Affectionate RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Bingo interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Although he is displaying behavior appropriate for cat parents with an average amount of experience, due to a bite incident, we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
