BIGBY – A1102649
Safe - 4-18-2017 Brooklyn
*** SAFE 04/18/17 *** RETURNED!! BIGBY WAS ADOPTED IN FEBRUARY AND IS NOW BACK AT THE ACC! A volunteer wrote: Bigby is a friendly guy with a beautiful tabby coat and an eager, inquisitive nature! When meeting a stranger, he came right to the front and was both curious about his surroundings, and adoring the attention. He has several healing wounds on his neck, but he didn’t appear bothered by them at all, and he readily accepted gentle cheek and head scratches. He only sat still enough for photos when he decided it was time to eat, but that was a small price to pay in order to spend quality time with a truly sweetheart cat!

Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: Gets overstimulated and will bite/scratch Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Friendly, affectionate, and independent with a high activity level. Bigby likes to be brushed and doesn’t mind being picked up/held. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Attention seeking in cage, started hissing, growling, swatting, trying to bite, EVALUATION: 04/05/17 He has a feral den in his kennel. It doesn’t seem like he’s using it. He was sitting up at the front then leaned forward to greet when I called his name. A little aloof. Eventually leans in for attention. Chirps then gives soft head butts. Although he’s soliciting attention his body felt tense. He would occasionally focus on my hand when pet along his back then lip lick. Interesting kitty, sprayed feliway and left some treats. 04/07/17 Social & friendly, comes forward to greet. Doesn’t seem to mind being pet all over. He was a tense when I picked him up then leaped back into the kennel shortly after. Loves treats. 04/08/17 Paces back & forth, rubbing his body against the kennel bars. Reaches out with paws (claws out) for attention. Leans in for attention, accepts petting and rubs all over. Tail quivers when rubbed. Started to vocalize when pet along his back for an extended period of time. Didn’t display any further reaction. Didn’t mind when held, body felt a little tense but he allowed it. Loves tuna & party mix treats. 04/09/17 Resting peacefully in his bed. He wakes up and comes forward to greet as soon as we make eye contact. Sweet guy, stretches then rubs his body up against the kennel door for attention. Tail sways when the kennel door opens, curious of surroundings. Steps onto my lap, and nudges my hand for attention. Allows petting/attention all over, relaxed body. It takes a lot do get him OS. Even when he was really excited he never tried to nip or scratch. Gives clears signs he’s getting aroused: tail starts to quiver, pilo erection, eyes dilate. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet, Affectionate, Curious POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation – Bigby is social and affectionate but appears to show signs of overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Bigby becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Bigby solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to Bigby showing signs of overstimulation we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home.

Enrichment::
02/02/17:
Big ol’ boy, right at front of kennel, bright and alert, calm. Looks like he has a minor abrasion on nose, maybe from rubbing against side of carrier? Has a round scab on neck behind left ear, collar area. Large frame, seems like he could beef up to fill out. Definitely ate overnight, good appetite, digs in to a fresh bowl of wet I offer; not interested in tuna. Intake note mentioned something about finder having seen blood in his urine, but nothing seen in urine in box this a.m. Allows all petting and handling, easily picked up and held and walked around the room carrying him. No reaction to other cats while passing other cages, including one very vocal intact female. Social, easygoing cat. May want to change name, as non-Spanish speakers may mistake this for a pejorative, especially these days. Looking forward to spending more time with this hoss. Initial med exam pending.
