*** SAFE 02/03/16*** BERNIE deserves better than whats happened to him, being dropped off at ACC when his former owner decided to move to a residence that doesn’t allow “pets.” BERNIE thought he was home forever, with people who loved him forever-and now, frightened and alone, he could well be killed tomorrow. He’s been timid and defensive at ACC, but this is normal for a loving, sweet boy who lived with other cats, and with kids even! He’s a cat who would be a great cat to foster, or open one’s home to forever, he has lovely markings and would love to show them off, laying in a patch of sun by you on the couch…BERNIE needs you now-for otherwise his life could well be over-“timid” and fearful cats don’t often get out of ACC alive without help-be the one to say, “yes” and save BERNIE now!

Reaction to assessor: Bernie remains neutral at the front of the cage When spoken quietly: Bernie remains neutral at the front of the cage Reaction to door cage opening: Bernie remains motionless Reaction to touch: Bernie slowly got up and walked away when touch Try picking cat up: Did not attempt Behavior Determination: Experience At the time of the assessment Bernie was displaying timid behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains motionless as I started to get closer. I was able to pet him and interact with him in a limited way. Although he was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. 1/31 update: While Bernie allows touch and petting, he does not appear to be thriving in the shelter environment and remains tense during interactions. We feel that movement from the kennel into a stable home environment as quickly as possible is in Bernie’s best interest.
