04/21/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Curious, Independent KNOWN HISTORY: Beeper was brought in to the care center as a stray with unknown history. Previously lived with: an adult and child Behavior toward strangers: Behavior toward children: fearful with the child MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/12/17- Observed Behavior – very fractious, hissing, swatting; lunges when approached or touched through net ENRICHMENT NOTES: 4/12/17- Became stiff and alert when door opened. Hissed at assess-a-hand, hissed again when pet, but continued squatting. On successive visits, started hissing and charging cage front. 4/13/17- Much calmer today, though still seen straining in litter box for prolonged period of time. At the front on approach, eyes somewhat dialed. Sniffed hand, started rubbing against the bars. Abruptly swatted through bars when offered treats, but stayed at the front afterwards. 4/17/17- Still seems very conflicted. On first visit, laying down at front of cage, soft eyes and body, rolling over. Later, sitting towards front, eyes dilated, growled on approach. Noted to have vomited shortly before this visit. Started hissing, growling, and retreating when shown assess-a-hand. Retreated further and started lip licking when door opened. 4/18/17- Curled up asleep next to cat den. Woke when door opened, immediately became tense and alert. Hissed, started growling, and repeatedly tapped assess-a-hand without claws. 4/19/17-In feral den on approach. No response to door opening or being spoken to. Stayed in den, reached out and struck assess-a-hand when offered treats. 4/20/17- Asleep on bedding on approach, woke when spoken to. Continued to lay in place, swatted when attempted touch. No vocalizing, didn’t even get up. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Beeper looks neutral, lying down on her cage bedding when approached. Reaction to cage door opening: Beeper becomes alert with eyes wide open and slowly stood up to retreat to the back. Reaction to touch: Beeper did not allow the touch and swats at the assessor’s hand with no claws. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beeper may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
