I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 03/18/2017 from NY 11420, owner surrender reason stated was PET HEALTH.

03/22/2017 Exam Type RE-EXAM – Medical Rating is 4 C – SEVERE CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is NONE, Weight 5.8 LBS.
3/22/17 Hx: Severe URI, severe dental disease, dehydrated, underweight, geriatric. Rads done yesterday afternoon. IVF line was chewed in half overnight by the dog in the cage below – the patient-side of the IV line is filled with blood. S: Calm, alert, responds well to petting. Meows for food, GREAT appetite this morning. O: BAR, estimated 5% dehydrated – slightly decreased skin turgor. BCS 3/9, MMs pink and moist EENT: Mild crusty yellow nasal discharge. Mild black discharge AU, left ear tipped. Clean eyes today. Able to perform oral exam today – severe tartar and gingival recession. H/L: NSR, NMA. Quiet lung sounds. Abd: Soft, fluidy and full, no pain on palpation M/S/I: Amb x4. No skin lesions noted. IVC in place but IV line filled with blood as described. UG: Male neutered Pulled IVC during exam. Chest and abd rads done yesterday afternoon – lungs look healthy, mild bronchial pattern but no sign of pneumonia. Gas noted in the esophagus and in the stomach. Food in stomach. A: 1. URI and dehydration – appear to be resolving with Baytril, ampicillin, nebulizing. No sign of pneumonia. Aerophagia – R/O resp difficulty due to upper resp congestion. 2. Emaciated – R/O underlying disease vs. difficulty eating due to oral pain 3. Severe dental disease and oral pain 4. Ear mites – on Tresaderm Short-term prognosis: Fair P: 1. Discontinue ampicillin 2. Continue Baytril, Tresaderm, nebulizing, buprenorphine 3. Okay to d/c IVF, start 125 ml LRS SQ SID x5 days 4. Monitor appetite 5. Move out of Medical, to isolation 6. CBC/chemistry today 7. Recommend dental cleaning, rads and likely multiple extractions 1088

03/18/17 18:35 Basel was giving short single meows, was unable to lift head and did not move during photo. Client who found Basel gave him a bath last night and dried him with a hair dryer. Basel did not struggle at all and was friendly with her and let her handle. Basel allowed the counselor to handle and collar.

KNOWN HISTORY: Basel was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. His finder was able to give him a bath and dried him off with a hair dryer. The finder reports Basel did not struggle at all and was friendly, allowing her to handle him. He also allowed handling during intake. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Quiet ENRICHMENT NOTES: 3/19/17 Resting on bedding, dull. Allowed pets, but no real response. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Basel was lying down, looking around. He was calm, relaxed, and friendly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Basel pokes his head forward to sniff around, and then he leans on his side and rubs his cheeks against his bedding. Reaction to cage door opening: Basel remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Basel head-butts, leans in for cheek rubs, and gets up to rub against the assessor. He meows when petting stops and continues to solicit attention by rubbing his entire body on the assessor. Reaction to being picked up: Basel remains calm and continues to purr when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Affectionate BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beginner Basel interacts with the observer, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.
