Needs more time to adjust. 01/07/18 Crouched on kuranda bed, tail wrapped around body. Tolerates petting along head and body while leaning away and licking lips. Turns head slowly to watch my hand. Makes eye contact when spoken to. He tolerates petting along his head and body while lowering himself and wrapping his tail around his body. Ears tilt and he licks his lips. Begins to eat treats after I’ve placed them down next to him, but pauses to watch me half way through. Finishes up treats after I’ve closed the kennel door. Needs some time to adjust. I offered him some tuna but he wouldn’t eat it until I left the cage. Nervous little guy. He tolerates slow, gentle petting on his head and along his body.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Baloo was tense and crouched on top his kuranda bed, with his tail wrapped around his body.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Baloo was tense and alert.
Reaction to touch:: Baloo slowly backs away and presses his body up against the back wall of the cage. His body feels tense when touched, but he tolerates gentle petting with a slow approach. After a few soft passes along his body he starts to open up, then leans in for cheek rubs.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Baloo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Baloo may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
