*** SAFE 12/02/17 *** Baby was surrendered to us because the daughter in the home has allergies. She has been in a home since she was a kitten and was noted to be good with children, friendly and outgoing. She is currently on treatment for a kitty cold.

Hello, my name is Baby. My animal id is #14378. I am a female black cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 22-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Baby 14378 is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Baby has no behavior concerns.

Upon intake, Baby easily went into a carrier, allowed being scanned for a microchip, collaring, and petting without any issues.

Basic Information:: Baby is a 3 year old female cat with no current injuries or health problems that the owner is aware of. The owner stated that she had Baby since she was a neonate kitten and retrieved Baby from fire fighters that were going to surrender her to ACC. Baby has not been to the veterinarian since she was a kitten. The owner had to surrender Baby due to her daughter having severe allergies.
Previously lived with:: Children ages 11 and 7
How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers Baby is shy for a few minutes.
How is this cat around children?: Around children Baby is relaxed, affectionate, and respectful.
Behavior Notes: During car rides, the owner had Baby loose in the car and stated that she sat in her cat bed and meowed. The owner stated that she gave Baby a bath approximately every 3 weeks and stated that she meows. The owner stated that she never attempted to trim Baby’s nails or put her in a carrier so, behavior is unknown. When being brushed Baby usually enjoys it or meows when she’s not in the mood. Baby enjoys being picked up and held. Baby is not bothered when disturbed while sleeping/resting.
Bite history:: Baby has never bitten another person or animal.

For a New Family to Know: Owner described Baby as Affectionate, Playful, Mellow, Relaxed, and Loving. Baby likes to play with pompom balls, string toys, balls, wand toys, and catnip toys. Baby was kept indoors only. Baby was fed a half a can of wet food once a day and had dry food left out throughout the day. Baby was fed Blue Buffalo. Baby is litterbox trained. Baby used an uncovered litter box with Arm & Hammer clumping litter. Baby also scratched on a stratching post made of cardboard or rough rope.

Reaction to assessor:: Baby is resting in the back of her kennel. She makes eye contact as assessor approaches. She appears calm, relaxed and friendly.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Baby remains calm in the back of her kennel. She meows and continues to look at assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Baby comes to the front of her kennel. Her body is soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Baby stays in the front of her kennel with her tail erect. Her tail begins to twitch as she is pet and she leans into petting. Baby continues to solicit attention during assessment by rubbing along the kennel walls and meowing.
Reaction to being picked up:: Baby does not mind being picked up and handled. She remains calm with a soft body, and she continues to lean into petting while being held.
