***SAFE 11/03/17*** SWEET, SOCIAL AND AFFECTIONATE AZUL HAS THE SHELTER COLD AND A HEART MURMUR AND NEEDS RESCUE NOW!! AZUL was brought in as a stray so not much is known about her background. She has a heart murmur which should have a follow up vet check. Sadly she caught the shelter cold and now must exit. AZUL is AVERAGE rated and would love to have a home of her own. BUT YOU MUST RESERVE THIS SWEETHEART BY NOON!!
Hello, my name is Azul. My animal id is #9788. I am a female calico cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 months 1 weeks old. -P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 14-Oct-2017.
Azul 9788 is at risk for an upper respiratory infection (URI) and heart murmur. Behaviorally, she has been social and attention-seeking, with a tendency to gently nip during interactions. We feel his behavior is suitable for an adopter with an average amount of cat experience, provided you are aware of and comfortable with this assertive form of affection.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
KNOWN HISTORY: Azul was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior -growling but allows exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: Dozing in main compartment, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body. Leaned into pets, purred, closed eyes, rolled over. Ate offered treats after door closed. Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Azul remains neutral, lying down on her cage bedding during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Azul remains immobile in place. Reaction to cage door opening: Azul becomes alert with soft eyes, relaxed body, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Azul stands with tail up and purrs during the touch, but after a few strokes she looks at the assessor’s hand and gently nips then continues to solicit attention. Reaction to being picked up: She began to squirm during pickup then jump back into the cage. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm Sweet Affectionate Curious POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation Potential challenges comments: Azul interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but she has a tendency to gently nip. Her behavior remains suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience, provided the adopter is aware of these behaviors and is able to comfortably manage them. Though we believe this cat is displaying behaviors appropriate for new or experienced cat parents, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Average Behavior Asilomar H – Healthy
