ATLAS – A1064406
Safe - 2-10-2016 Brooklyn Rescue: Staten Island Hope Please honor your pledges: http://www.statenislandhoperescue.org/
**SAFE 02/10/16** That deer-in-the-headlight expression is one ATLAS comes by honestly. This pretty tabby boy was brought to the shelter as a stray and frankly, he has never been anywhere more frightening. ATLAS is about a year old and should warm up into a lovely companion, once he gets the chance to decompress in a FOSTER or ADOPTIVE home. Please advocate widely for ATLAS tonight!

02/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Atlas was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was tense and had a hard body upon intake. He retreated to the back of his carrier and was not receptive to handling due to fear. He did not like being handled during his initial medical exam either because he was tense and nervous, and very fearful. Reaction to Assessor: Atlas was crouched over by the back. Reaction when softly spoken to: Atlas averts his gaze, blinks, and starts to breathe rapidly. Reaction to cage door opening: Atlas becomes stiff and alert, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Atlas’s eyes widen with extended hand, but he remains immobile throughout the interaction. He allows gentle petting, but is very fearful. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Atlas tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
