06/24/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Ashley was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Scared, allows exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/22/17 Lying in litter box with a low, tense body. She tolerates petting while backing away, body low and eyes wide. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Ashley was crouched in her litter box with wide eyes focused on the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Ashley slow blink then lowers her body into the litter box. Reaction to cage door opening: Ashley shifts away. Reaction to touch: Ashley dodges the assessor’s hand and slinks away when attempting to interact with her. She pauses and becomes completely immobile when touched. She starts to warm up and eventually tilts her head allowing petting and rubs all over. Reaction to being picked up: Ashley was tense when picked up and curled up tight in the assessor’s arms. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Talkative CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Kitten socialization – Ashley is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Ashley may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
