05/07/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Asher was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He did not appear to tolerate handling during intake. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – growling, hissing in carrier; netted for exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/4/17 At the front on approach, body held low and tense, eating wet food. Occasionally hissed, growled, and seemed to be attacking himself. Unclear if stress-related or response to existing injury. Eventually went into den. Stuck head back out on approach, started growling and whining. Blood noted on bedding. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Asher was resting by the back; he opens his eyes to look at the assessor approaches, but he closes them again to rest. Reaction when softly spoken to: Asher blinks repeatedly. Reaction to cage door opening: Asher lifts his head and meows softly, somewhat whiny-like. Reaction to touch: Asher whines, but he pokes his head forward to sniff the assessor’s hand. He grumbles when touched gently on his head, but will hiss and growl louder, shifting away from contact. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot assess VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that this cat has a severe medical condition so we may not be seeing any true behavior and behavior may change when the cat’s medical condition improves. ECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only – Asher tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
