11/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Ash is shy around strangers for a few days and he plays gently with children and adults. He lived in a home with children ages 6- 12 years old and was relaxed and affectionate with them. Ash lived in a home with another cat for 6 years and was relaxed and affectionate towards them. His owners describe him as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy and quiet with a medium activity level. He enjoys being brushed, given a bath, being picked up and doesn’t mind going in a carrier. At home Ash will follow around his owners and likes to play with balls. Reaction to assessor: Ash was alert, sitting up at the front of the kennel and was focused on the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Ash’s ears bend flat, he lip licks and becomes very focused on the assessor’s movements. Reaction to cage door opening: Ash grumbles and is alert. Reaction to touch: Ash lip licks upon approach and seems unsure of contact. His body is tense and he allows petting on his head with a very slow approach. He tolerates petting on his head and cheek but becomes very uncomfortable when touched on his body and will hiss, whip around quickly and attempt to swat. He then retreats to the back of the kennel and doesn’t allow any more contact. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Ash tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
