***SAFE 02/18/17***A staff member writes, “Arctic is as distinguish as Sir David Attenborogh’s voice and as gorgeous as the environments he narrates. This is a quiet older gentleman that will add a splash of color to any rooms decor and would do well in a nice quiet home.
“Arctic and Willie are quiet older gentlemen who will add a splash of class to any room’s decor and would do well in a nice quiet home. Tony is definitely a classy older lady as well, and would also be happiest in a calm, experienced kitty home with no children.” (Came in with Willie, Billy & Tony–also listed tonight).

02/10/2017 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 3 NC – MAJOR CONDITIONS Normal, Behavior Rating is EXPNOCHILD, Weight 6.8 LBS.
RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only- Arctic tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.

02/10/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Arctic was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Arctic was curled up at the back of the kennel with her tail tucked under her body. Reaction when softly spoken to: Arctic turns her head and focuses on the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Arctic looks around and is very wary of her surroundings. Reaction to touch: Arctic lip licks with wide eyes directed towards the assessor and remains immobile. She slinks down and has a very tense body when the assessor pets her. She looks around frantically then quickly shifts away to the other side of the double kennel. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 02/08/17 Hunched over side of litter box at rear of cage, “frozen,” doesn’t move. Huge eyes, doesn’t make any eye contact but intently follows my movements and the cage door when it opens/shuts. Able to give soft, gentle passes over body, but remains frozen. 02/09/17 Lying in kennel at very back, face pressed against side of cage. Able to touch a little with a very slow, gentle approach, but body tenses and he looks to flee. Fearful, but no swatting or biting, wants to be invisible. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very fearful, trying to flee, but no attempts to bite or scratch. Allows handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful- Arctic has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
