***SAFE 05/23/17***BEGINNER ALERT…ONLY TWO…This handsome boy is so sweet that he’s a favorite feline in Medical! Arby has an excellent appetite, can express on his own, and has been friendly and attention-seeking since he arrived yesterday. Unfortunately this kitty needs follow up medical as soon as possible for his sacral and right sided pelvic fractures and sacral nerve damage.
ARBY may have pelvic fractures and possible nerve injury. Needs medical eval. He is friendly and vocal but is not using his hind end. Needs rescue asap!

05/22/17 Rear end irritation noted. S/O: BARH. mm=pink, moist, CRT<2 s. Very affectionate, social. Eating/drinking well. Urine in litterbox and on cage papers, formed feces in litterbox. EENT: No oculonasal discharge, no sneezing. ABD/UG: Urinary bladder mod full, easily expressed. MS/NEURO: Amb x 4 with bilateral hind limb lameness and weakness. Tail held limply with no movement. INTEG: Urine accumulatin in perineal fur, mod. erythema and moisture on scrotum, perineum. A: Urine scald secondary to urinary incontinence. P: Applied SSD cream to area. Continue SSD cream BID x 5 days. Convenia 80 mg/ml 0.4 ml SQ administered. Fair prognosis.

KNOWN HISTORY: Arby was brought into our care center as a stray so there is no previous history available MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Friendly, vocal. Allows most handling – painful in the rear so he understandably gets upset when touched in hind end. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Arby is lying on his side in the front of the kennel as the assessor approaches Reaction when softly spoken to: Arby vocalizes and head-butts the kennel door when spoken to Reaction to cage door opening: Arby remains relaxed in the front of his kennel as the cage door opens Reaction to touch: Arby allows petting on his head and body while leaning in and head-butting the assessors hand. Arby purrs and kneads the floor with continued petting. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Affectionate, Social BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beginner Despite being injured Arby has shown friendly and social behavior in our care center. The behavior team believes that Arby can go to a home with beginner cat parents.

05/18/17 DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 2 yrs Microchip noted on Intake? No. History : Stray cat, not using his hind legs. Subjective: Observed Behavior – Friendly, vocal. Allows most handling – painful in the rear so he understandably gets upset when touched in hind end. Evidence of Cruelty seen – No. Evidence of Trauma seen – Yes. Objective: BARH. mm=pink, moist, CRT<2 s. Simbadol 0.55 ml SQ administered before proceeding with exam due to obvious injury. ORAL: All adult teeth present, excellent dental condition. EENT: No oculonasal discharge, no sneezing. H/L: HR=220, RR=24, no dyspnea, no murmurs/arrhythmias. PLN: No enlargements noted. ABD: Soft, mildly uncomfortable. Urinary bladder mod full, soft. Urine dripping from prepuce. U/G: Male, intact, both testicles palpable. MS: Amb x 2 with forelimbs. Will not bear weight on hind limbs, painful on palpation of hind limbs but not palpable long bone fractures. Voluntary motor activity both hind limbs. Very painful on pelvic palpation. BCS=5/9. INTEG: No open wounds found. Mild soft tissue swelling and bruising around perineum. Mod. urine accumulation in perineal fur. NEURO: No tail tone and no response to tail pinch, decreased anal tone and decreased response to perineal and scrotal pinch. Appears to have sensation when prepuce is touched. A: Suspect pelvic fractures, possible nerve injury with urine retention or incontinence. P: Scheduled for sedation and radiographs of pelvis/hind limbs. Will also need microchip and FELV/FIV test done. Fair prognosis pending radiograph results. Continue Simbadol 0.55 ml SQ q 24 hours x 3 days.
