KNOWN HISTORY: April was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Fearful, tense, will not allow handling. Hissing, bites gloves. Limited exam in net. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/02/17 Came out today to sniff my hand. She allowed petting along her head and body, tense at first but warming up quickly. Nuzzled face against kennel floor. Tolerated being held with a tense body. Showing improvement – added to socialization list. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: April was relaxed, lying down in her litter box at the back of the kennel Reaction when softly spoken to: April was feint sleeping with her tail wrapped up along her body. She slowly turns her head to make eye contact but doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: April remains motionless. Reaction to touch: April sniffs the assessor’s hand and closes her eyes when rubbed on her head. She slowly tilts her head allowing rubs and boosts her rear when pet along her body. After a couple soft pets she rises up and gently nudges the assessor’s hand for attention. Reaction to being picked up: April was a bit tense when picked up and tried to wiggle out of the assessor’s arms. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – April may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home.
