10/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amethyst was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was tense with her finder, but allowed them to pet her through the carrier. She retreated to the back of a den upon intake and had wide eyes, watching the counselor. She was stiff, but tolerated all handling. She was slightly nervous and attempted to flee during her initial medical exam, but allowed all handling to be conducted. Reaction to assessor: Amethyst was by the back, partially hiding behind her blanket. Reaction when softly spoken to: Amethyst looks at the assessor with soft eyes, and then averts her gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Amethyst remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Amethyst was hesitant initially, but she warms up quickly when touched and head-butts the assessor’s hand. She kneads on her blanket, arches her back, and approaches the front to head-butt the assessor for more attention. She is very affectionate and seems to appreciate petting. Reaction to being picked up: Amethyst was slightly tense during pick up, but remains calm when held. She jumps back into her kennel and continues soliciting. Behavior Determination: Average Amethyst interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. She may need a little time to warm up to her new home, but this cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
