***SAFE 09/04/16*** AFFECTONATE AND ATTENTION-SEEKING ALYSSA WAS DUMPED BY HER OWNER FOR MOVING AND NOW THIS HEALTHY GIRL WILL DIE BECAUSE SHE IS AFRAID! ALYSSA loved to follow her owner around and beg for petting. She even walked in the street along her owner’s side! ALYSSA gets along well with children and plays gentle. But her owner has decided to dump this purrfectly healthy loyal girl in the kill happy shelter when they moved. This cat is friendly, playful and just a pure sweetheart – UNTIL – she was dumped in a scary shelter. Now this wonderful tortie who is only 4 years old is afraid and hissed and swatted at the assessor. Of course- she wants HER family not some stranger! For that she was punished with a NEW HOPE rating and put on tonight’s list. HOW CRUEL AND UNFAIR IS THAT? CAN SOMEONE BAIL THIS SUPER SWEET CAT OUT OF THE ACC DEATH ROW SYSTEM AND GET HER TO A FUREVER HOME? PLEASE CONTACT A RESCUE NOW – SHE ONLY HAS TIL NOON!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Alyssa is friendly and social around strangers once she gets to know them. She is shy at first but will allow them to pick her up & pet her after becoming familiar with them. Alyssa plays gently with adults and has spent time with small children and got along well with them. Her owner says that she has been walked in the streets and she stays at her side. Alyssa has never lived with another cat or dog. She doesn’t mind being picked up or placed in a carrier and loves affection. Her owner describes her as a friendly, affectionate and loving cat who likes to play with cat toys like balls and string. Reaction to assessor: Alyssa was resting on her blanket at the front of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Alyssa’s tail starts to flicker and she has wide eyes focused on the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Aylssa remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Alyssa rises up and arches her back with her ears bent flat. She leans forward to sniffs the assessor’s hand and tolerates petting briefly. Her body is tense/ stiff when touched then she hisses and swats at the assessor and allows no more contact. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Alyssa is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
