Hx: ACS reports that pt sneezed a few times and then started open-mouth breathing. ACS rushed pt downstairs to Medical for exam. S: Meows, looks around, looks for escape route. Allows most handling, but tense. O: BAR-H, BCS 5/9, MMs pink and moist EENT: Mild serous nasal discharge. Clean ears and eyes. Saliva hanging from mouth. Severe tartar and gingivitis on PMs and Ms. PLNs: Not enlarged. H/L: NSR, NMA. Occasional sneeze. Eupnic, quiet lung sounds. Abd: Soft, no pain on palpation, no masses palpated M/S/I: Amb x4. 04/21/17 13:41 Basic information: Alice was brought in as a stray. The finder found her on the street, the finder placed Alice in a cat carrier and brought her to the shelter. No other information could be provided during intake. Intake Behavior: During intake Alice had tense, stiff body. Sydney would retreat from extended hand. We were able to scan (negative), collar, picture, and place in a cat kennel.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet KNOWN HISTORY: Alice was brought in to care center as a stray with unknown history. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/21/17 Observed Behavior – allows handling, shy ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/23/17 Hiding behind litter box, lying flat to hide. Her ears tilt slightly sideways when spoken to, but she doesn’t peek out until the cubby door is opened. She looks out with dilated eyes, but will poke her head forward to sniff my hand. She accepts petting and visibly warms up, pushing her head forward and leaning in for rubs. She shifts her body into a comfier position, but still has her tail wrapped around her body. She begins to purr and seems to really appreciate attention, just wary of her surroundings. Really shy, but sweet cat. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Alice looks neutral, lying down on her cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Alice becomes alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Alice slowly leans into the assessor’s and enjoys the petting. Reaction to being picked up: Alice becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Alice interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
