Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body. Tolerates petting along head and body while tilting ears and turning head to watch my hand, body remaining tense. Needs more time to adjust.

Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body, head lowered onto kennel floor. Tolerates petting along head and body while remaining very still and avoiding eye contact. “Scared stiff.†Needs more time to adjust.
02/09/18
Low body posture, head facing the wall. Seems unsure of his surroundings. He lip licks and shrinks his body as I approach him. His body feels tense when touched and he closes his eyes when pet along his body. He slowly starts to warm up over time and leans against my hand for rubs. After a few minutes attention he slowly rises up and comes forward with his tail lowered. He gently nudges my hand and gives head butts. Doing so much better!
02/10/18
Crouched in the back of the kennel, tense body, head lowered. Seems wary of his surroundings. Hesitant initially but starts to open up with attention. Very food motivated- I was able to coax him to the front of the kennel with tuna. He perks up when pet, nudges my hand and gives gentle head butts. Shy little guy, but very sweet. Just needs a slow approach. Doing better everyday!

Potential challenges comments:
Alexis has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
