*** SAFE 01/05/18 *** Meet Alexis! This independent cat is looking for a family that will take the time to learn and understand her behaviors @MACC
Manhattan Center
Hello, my name is Alexis. My animal id is #16557. I am a female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 20-Dec-2017.
Alexis is at risk for behavioral reasons. She is fearful and stressed in the shelter, and whilst she tolerates attention and petting, we feel that she is likely to be intimidated by small children. For this reason, we recommend placement in an adult only home. Medically, we have no concerns for Alexis, who presents as a healthy cat.
My medical notes are…

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
KNOWN HISTORY:: Alexis was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: Alert in cat den, hissing and growling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/21/17 Dozing in den, head poking out. Woke when spoken to, became alert, eyes dilated, hissing. Continued hissing and grumbling when door opened. Came halfway out to swat assess-a-hand when offered treats, then ducked back inside.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Alexis remains neutral, softly lying down on her cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Alexis becomes alert with normal shape eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Alexis stands with tail slightly down, stress meowing, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Alexis accepts a brief touch, but seems conflicted and began to hiss while tail remains high up. When attempted to touch again she leans away and paws with no claws at the assessor’s hand preventing the interaction to move forward.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Talkative
CHARACTER TYPE: : Curious,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Alexis tolerates attention and petting, but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at her own pace.
