***SAFE 10/17/17*** HANDSOME ALEX ALLOWS GENTLE PETTING BUT NEEDS SOMEONE TO GIVE HIM SOME EXTRA TLC AND A HOME! ALEX was dumped by someone who said he had “too many” pets – so poor Alex got the boot! Alex is shy but did allow a gentle approach. He will most likely be fine once out of the scary shelter environment. Please consider this handsome tuxie. MUST RESERVE BY NOON!
Brooklyn Center
Hello, my name is Alex. My animal id is #8723. I am a male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 3 years old. – p
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender – aco on 03-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as poor choice – too many animals already.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Alex is at-risk with an adult only determination. He displays fearful behavior and does not appear to be thriving in the shelter environment. He focuses on the person when approached for interaction and will attempt to avoid contact. Although he allows gentle petting, he keeps a low body posture and appears very uncomfortable.

Details on my behavior are…
KNOWN HISTORY: Alex was brought in without information on his behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Fearful and will flea, gave warning nip but allowed exam and ear cleaning with sufficient restraint. Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Alex was lying down by the back and appears neutral. Reaction when softly spoken to: Alex looks at the assessor and his eyes soften slightly, blinking. Reaction to cage door opening: Alex becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Alex appears tense and focuses on the assessor’s hand. He sniffs the hand, but shifts away in an attempt to avoid contact. He allows gentle petting with a very slow approach, but he keeps a low body posture and lip licks. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy Timid Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful Potential challenges comments: Alex has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may be uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experienced, adult only Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Alex tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He will need time to warm up to his new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
10/09/17 Behavior: Adult only
