*** SAFE 08/02/17 *** A volunteer writes: Irresistible Albert. He’s a quiet boy, but with those beautiful eyes and that shiny black coat, he’ll probably capture your attention without as much as a “meow”. Albert’s shy, and although he’s young, he’s looking for a nice, quiet home with adult friends where he can relax in his own space. He’s an independent guy, and if you come to meet him (which you absolutely should) he might prefer to stay at the back of his cage where he’s comfortable. But he’ll keep those big eyes on you the whole time, trying to work you out and get to know you. Although he’s a little timid, he loves being petted, which seems to relax him. I get the feeling that when he’s in his new home, Albert’s going to totally chillax and enjoy the simple things in life like watching birds through the window, or curling up on the couch. Could you be his new human best friend?

07/28/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Hides and takes about a month to become comfortable in a new setting Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Lived with other cats and was relaxed and gentle Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Other notes: He doesn’t like to be held for long periods and will struggle to go inside the carrier. At home he likes to play with laser pointers and cardboard. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/26/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body, ears flattened. Tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his head to watch my hand and licking his lips. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway. 07/27/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body, ears titled. Tolerates petting while tense, licking lips. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway. Not interested in treats today. 07/28/17 Low body posture in litter box. Tense and wary. Watches the assessor and lip licks when I extended my hand forward. He leans forward a little to sniff my hand; accepts petting on his head and cheeks. Body feels tense, tolerates full body petting. Leans forward and appreciates rubs on cheeks and neck. He was very tense when picked up, but allowed it. Just needs more time. Sniffed the temptation treats but didn’t eat them. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Albert has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide his with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Albert tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
