06/22/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/22/17 14:41 Basic Info: Akil A1116174 is a neutered male lynx point DSH who was found as a stray 3yrs ago and is being surrendered due to him not getting along with the other cat in the home. He was last seen by a vet in 2014 when altered and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Akil is friendly/outgoing with strangers. He hasn’t been around children or dogs but was gentle, playful, relaxed/affectionate with the adult in the home. Akil would “stalk” the other male cat in the home, hiss, swat and or charge at them & “go” in front of the other cats food/water bowls. Akil hasn’t bitten/scratched any person but has bitten the other cat (the last incident was a few days ago but did not draw blood/break skin- other instances he has drawn some blood or broken the cats’ skin). Behavior: During car rides Akil will meow. He isn’t bothered by the following: being brushed, having his nails trimmed or being put into a carrier. Akil hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting and it takes several minutes for him to adjust to being bathed; go slow. Akil scratches on cardboard boxes, the bedpost sometimes mattress, and doesn’t have a scratching post. According to the owner Akil doesn’t always use his litter box; he’ll use it “when he feels like it”. For a New Family to Know: Akil is described as friendly, affectionate, playful (at times) & quiet with low-medium activity level. When the owner is home Akil follows them around. He’s an indoor cat who sleeps around the home, eats dry Friskies cat food 2-3x a day and uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter within sometimes or he’ll go in front of the other cats’ food/water bowls (no behavior modification/training or vet visti has been attempted). Intake Behavior: Akil allowed all handling. He had a soft body, eyes and allowed to be scanned (-), collared & have his pictures taken. Akil didn’t seem to mind being picked up/held too much (perhaps due to his weight he was a little uncomfortable) and was placed into a kennel with ease.

06/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Friendly and outgoing Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Stalks and will hiss, swat, or charge at the other cat Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: No history with people, but has bitten the other cat Litter box training: Yes, but was reported to eliminate by the other cat’s food/water bowls Energy level/descriptors: Akil is described as friendly, affectionate, playful (at times) & quiet with low-medium activity level. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows all handling, no aggression EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Akil was lying down by the back, but starts to purr upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Akil makes eye contact with the assessor and continued to purr. Reaction to cage door opening: Akil remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Akil purrs loudly and leans in for rubs. He begins to knead and shifts his body closer to the front. Reaction to being picked up: Akil is slightly tense during pick up, but remains calm when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Inappropriate elimination – Akil’s previous owner reports that he eliminates inside the litter box whenever he “feels like it”, but was eliminating on the other cat’s belongings. There were no modification steps taken to try and address this behavior, however please note that his previous living situation may have contributed to the behavior seen (lived with another cat that he felt uncomfortable around). We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a different home environment, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Akil interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
RECOMMENDATIONS: – No other cats OR multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats – Akil remains social and easy to handle with her human caretakers, but please be aware that he may be uncomfortable around other cats. Their previous owner reports he would stalk the other cat and charge the cat. Due to the described behaviors, we recommend Akil goes to a home with no other cats OR into a multi-cat home with cat parents experienced with introducing new cats slowly and gradually over a long period of time.
