04/04/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: 5 adults and a 10yr old child Behavior toward strangers: Shy and stays hidden Behavior toward children: Fearful Behavior toward cats: She spent time with a female cat in the home and was described as tolerant. Behavior toward dogs: Tense, displays distance increasing behaviors Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Shy and mellow Other notes: Fearful and struggles when trimming her nails. Struggles when placed in carrier, allows it when placed backwards. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Agatha was curled up tight in her litter box at the back of the cubby. Reaction when softly spoken to: Agatha turns towards the assessor and slow blinks. She seems uncomfortable and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Agatha lip licks and starts grumbling. Reaction to touch: Agatha slowly rises up and the hairs on her back pilo-erect. Her eyes are wide & dilated and she hisses when the assessor approaches her. She tolerates petting with a very slow approach and low growls throughout the entire interaction. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Agatha has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only – Agatha tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
