Addison 17002, 1 Year Old, Orange and White Tabby DSH, Female, 6.5lbs, Stray 12/27/17
KNOWN HISTORY:
Addison was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Hissing, swatting
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
12/28/17
Sitting upright beneath kuranda bed, tail wrapped around feet. Retreats back and forth through portal to avoid touch. Needs more time to adjust.
01/02/18
Crouched in back of kennel, body tense with tail wrapped around him. He hisses and flattens his ears as I open the kennel door, then retreats to his bed when I reach towards him. Retreats back through portal when I attempt petting him one more time, speaking softly. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Addison was tense and curled up inside her den.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Addison lip licks, then curled up and turns her head away from the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Addison remains tense and motionless.
Reaction to touch:
Addison’s ears bend flat and she hisses when approached by the assessor. Her body trembles and she tolerates brief petting before shifting away with her tail tucked under her body.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Skittish
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Addison has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Addison tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home.
Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
