EENT: Severe purulent discharge from both eyes – eye lids shut over, severe blepharitis and conjunctivitis, 3rd eyelids showing, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted – nasal congestion
Oral Exam: Necrosis of cranial aspect of tongue – trauma vs calici-virus
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated
U/G: Two testicles present
MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat
CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: externally normal
Assessment: URI – suspect calicivirus as per tongue necrosis as well as a secondary bacterial infection
Prognosis: Poor to Fair
Plan:
SQ fluids 150 ml SID for 4 days
Warm compress Eye-lids to remove purulent material BID for 4 days
Erythromycin ophthalmic ointment OR BID for 10 days
Doxycycline 10mg/kg SID for 14 days
Vit B injection 0.3 ml once only
Cerenia 1mg/kg – 0.4 ml SQ SID for 4 days
Simbadol 0.24 mg/kg SQ SID for 4 days
Medical feedings BID with soft food only
