I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 30-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.

Acura is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Acura has been nervous in the care center, only allowing limited handling.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 4-6yrs Microchip noted on Intake? no History: O/S due to eviction Subjective: Cat is Q/BARH Observed Behavior – shy/timid, but allows all handling, tends towards flight rather than fight Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective T = NA P = 200 R = wnl BCS 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears mild ceruminous debris, bilateral mucoid to mucopurulent nasal discharge Oral Exam: Grade 3/4 dental dz (missing pre-molars upper left maxilla) PLN: mildly enlarged submandibular lymph nodes H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Neutered male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, mild miliary dermatitis CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment: URI, Moderate-Severe Dental Dz Prognosis: Good Plan: Move to ISO. Start Doxycycline 50mg/mL – give 1.0mLs PO q24h x 10d. Recheck day 7 and 10. Recommend dental on placement. SURGERY: Already neutered

KNOWN HISTORY:: Acura was brought in without information on his behavior history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Shy/timid, but allows all handling, tends towards flight rather than fight
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/02/18 Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body, tail wrapped around him. He tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his head to smell the bear-claw, ears shifting forward. Curious but unsure – needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Acura was crouched in the front of the kennel with wide eyes focused on the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Acura slow blinks and wouldn’t get up or come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Acura remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:: Acura tenses up and lowers his head when the assessor extends his hand out. He flinches slightly when touched, starts breathing rapidly and remains completely immobile throughout the interaction.

Potential challenges comments:: Acura has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
